[Jan. 2005] Our University: A Newsletter from the University of California President for Faculty and Staff, Issue 16

"In a year in which the State of California continues to face a very difficult fiscal situation, and after years of cuts to the University of California, the Governor's budget for 2005-06 proposes a welcome increase in State funding for the University. The Governor has fulfilled his commitments under his 'compact' with the University, providing many of the basic resources we need to begin rebuilding programs, to provide faculty and staff salary increases, to fund student enrollment growth, and to sustain our contributions to California's economic competitiveness and quality of life. I appreciate the Governor's support, expressed in this budget, for higher education and its transformative impact on the state."

[Nov. 2004] Student Fees for 2005-06 [PDF]

"On Thursday, Nov. 18 the Board of Regents voted in favor of a student fee increases for 2005-06. The increase is in line with the compact agreement made between the Governor and the University of California in May 2004, which outlines state funding levels for UC over the next several years. Under the compact, undergraduate fee increases would average 10 percent over a three-year period (14 percent in 2004-05; 8 percent in 2005-06 and 2006-07). Graduate fees increased by 20 percent in 2004-05, and, under the compact, would increase by 10 percent in both 2005-06 and 2006-07. The compact was intended to stabilize state support for the University over the next several years and create predictability around fee levels for students and their parents."

[Nov. 2004] Press Release: Regents Adopt Budget Proposal, Student Fees for 2005-06

"The University of California Board of Regents today (Nov. 18) adopted a state budget proposal for 2005-06 that would halt the cuts of the last several years and provide modest new funding for enrollment growth, student instructional programs, and faculty and staff compensation. The board also set student fee levels for 2005-06, recognizing the need for additional funding to help rebuild the university's programs and acting to give maximum notice to students and their families. The fees include increases of 8 percent ($457) for resident undergraduates and 10 percent ($628) for resident graduate academic students over the full 2005-06 year."
